CHURCH CITY KYOTO is a new Protestant Christian church in the city of Kyoto. It is the result of a team effort between the ASSEMBLY KYOTO CHURCH and CHURCH CITY USA in New York, USA. Both churches belong to the Assemblies of God denominations of their respective countries. CHURCH CITY KYOTO will inherit the DNA of the two churches and build a new church in a new area on the foundation of unchanging truth (the Word of the Bible).
The story behind the birth of CHURCH CITY KYOTO
ASSEMBLY KYOTO CHURCH, located in Shimogyo Ward, has been working on evangelism in Kamigyo Ward for over 10 years and felt the need for a new church in the area. On June 25, 2023, an event occurred. A pastor and his wife from CHURCH CITY USA in New York, USA visited ASSEMBLY KYOTO CHURCH. The couple and Murakami, who will become the current pastor of CHURCH CITY KYOTO, met again that week and had an enthusiastic discussion about missions in Japan late into the night. In November of that year, the couple invited Pastor Murakami and his wife to their church in the United States, giving them the opportunity to appeal for missions in Japan. The time was ripe, and in April 2025, the two churches in Kyoto and New York joined forces to create CHURCH CITY KYOTO.
